MACPAINT, 1988

72" by 108" Canvas Inkjet Print
Collection of Apple Computer, Inc.

The original MacPaint was developed by Bill Atkinson, a member of Apple's original Macintosh development team. It became apparent at that time that the interface is art, and that MacPaint was one of the first applications available to the art community. This computer application was a turning point for Apple, and along with MacWrite, launched Apple Corporation into an aesthetic that they have sustained for decades.

To emphasize my affection for the machine, I embedded clip art of machines in the "painting". This was my first large format inkjet print, 6 by 9 feet on canvas, printed in Hollywood at a billboard company. In 1988, inkjet technology was beginning to find its way into outdoor advertising, the company was owned by Rupert Murdoch.
